Being called a whore on the internet

untitled-1-copy1

A friend submitted one of her videos to a male dominated site and she got trashed for it. It then turned into a thread calling her a whore and telling her to show her titties. She wrote to me about it so I started piping in with what I felt was intelligent humor. She then got mad at me and said that they were just joking and that I ruined her chance to work with them.

Maybe I’m wrong… maybe we women should feel so desperate to be accepted on the internet and in the world of comedy that we should just bend over when being called a “whore” and being told to “show our titties.” Especially when coming from the Administrators and Moderators of a popular douchebaggery comedy site. I guess I have A LOT to learn about comedy because “homey don’t play that game.”

I sent the message below to my friend only to be told that I should aim for being funnier. She then told me the forum *douchebags* (my word for them) had “handed me my head on a platter.” I felt the complete opposite occurred. Can someone please give me the fucking handbook on funny? Cause clearly I am at a loss.

Below is the message I sent to her that pretty much sums up my thoughts on the issue. Please tell me where I am having a brain malfunction with my logic because I need to learn.

“Lord knows I am far from a feminist when it comes to comedy. I roll with guys. They are my biggest supporters. I have continuously been called a “chick with a guy’s sense of humor” by men. When I was doing live shows 60% of the audience were men and they would always be so excited after the show that they didn’t see a male-bashing-fest onstage. I also have hung with some of the top male comics in our country and many of them have performed for fundraisers that I have held. They have done it for free and they have always treated me with the utmost respect. I love men deeply and would never have achieved what I have so far without them.

On the other hand.. rolling with being called a whore and being told to “show your titties” is not, in my opinion, the way to go. It will not earn you respect. Instead you will be seen as a doormat. You don’t have to get mad about it… but I do think a better approach is to try to outwit it. It runs rampant on the internet and it sends the wrong message. You know I have been knee deep in SM for years now and have earned the respect of most the top diggers and other top people in social media etc. because I don’t roll with it. I challenge it. Most guys use it as bravado but secretly they want to be challenged cause they know it’s wrong. What I see is way too many women succumbing to it because they want to fit in with the boys who control the comedy world and the internet.

I think you have a real opportunity to grow your female base which will, by shear force alone, crush these types of comments. Not from an angry diatribe but from an intelligent dismissal of such ignorance. I liken the acceptance of the status quo to the slutty girl who puts out to be accepted. We should aim higher than that.”

Calling someone a 'whore' CAN be funny, within the right context. If an insult like 'whore' is used as an insult or put down, then this is the lowest form of attempted wit. Same goes for 'show me your titties' – schoolboy humour. To have any more specific comment on your incident would require you to publish your history.

Having said that, now that we are discussing comedy and insults – if you ARE a whore, and have lovely titties, then my phone number is….. ;o) (all about context)

Well said. On the internet or in real life, I don't believe that any female will earn respect from men by 'rolling along' with comments such as those mentioned. When dealing with males such as those, a woman will not earn respect if she doesn't demand it IMO.

So did she show them or not? If so, can you provide a link?

  4. Sad that the internet provides a platform for this faceless pack mentality – to be honest, you're facing a wall of pure ignorance and that's hard to fight. Do you remember the Kathy Sierra situation that played out on the blogosphere a couple of years ago? This has so many of the same hallmarks – but not nearly so violent.

All the same, your friend is wrong to just accept it. There are ways to make your feelings known without being preachy or high-handed about. Which wouldn't win you any points with these folk.

That site(cracked) is actually funny, I curse the link that brought me here. Also it seems funny that the front page of this shithole prominently featured 3 sets of "titties".

Strange that you would hang around to read an article on a "shithole" site. I imagine you are one of the douches in the forum I was referring to. It sure took you guys a long time to locate "I Like My Boobies."
I was waiting and waiting and waiting.
