Render and Save or be Sorry – AKA The Emergency Room

I have been editing for a week (on and off) the soon to be uploaded video “Emergency Room.” Although it was written back in 2005, as part of Tomboys in Fishnets’ 5th production “Caught in Red Tape,” it’s still timely. So I wanted to get it out fast! Not only because it addresses the health care issue but because it also skewers gender biases in the health care industry. And what better time to smear egg in the faces of the guilty than during Breast Cancer Awareness month.
Here’s where I went wrong. I decided to try to learn how to color correct. On a TIMELY VIDEO! That’s right! I’m a dumb ass! I should have tried to develop that skill during a silly video like Soccer Fight. One that I only had a few clips to play with… not over fifty! But no! Not Me!
Well today I spent another eight hours tweaking color correction and right as I was about to export the video I noticed a hissing sound on a few of the clips. Nothing I heard the first hundred times while editing. And not something 99.9% of people would notice. But I decided “this is the time to learn how to work with audio filters.” I called a friend. He gave some advice….
VIOLA! Problem solved.
Or so I thought. As I started to add the filter to each of the 50 or so edited clips… Final Cut CRASHED ON ME! When I re-opened FCP it took me back to an eight hour old version of the video. All my final color corrections LOST.
So… clearly I won’t be uploading that video tomorrow as planned. In the meantime here are some stills from the production.
Please continue to bare with me as I try to learn how to do things the right way!
