MAYBE NBC should just cast “Tomboys in Fishnets” in a show (2003)
The producers of NBC’s “Coupling” better get someone over to the Zephyr Theatre quick — to catch the Tomboys in Fishnets most recent comedy skit — if they want to save their ambitious sitcom.
NBC announced this week that it’s taking its highly-touted comedy “Coupling” off its schedule for two weeks in what could be an ominous sign about the show’s future.
Page Three told you several weeks there were serious questions about this show. All you had to do was check out those racy billboards — of the “Coupling” cast members standing naked behind a bedsheet covering their mid-sections.
The idea for that promo was an apparent ripoff of the almost trademark photo that the girls from the Tomboys in Fishnets comedy troupe has been using for a while.
We even ran side-by-side photos showing the remarkable similarities — and the story was picked up by TV’s “Celebrity Justice” to show the same thing.
NBC spokespersons declined to comment on the apparent copycat promo.
Meanwhile, “Coupling” — which is suppose to be NBC’s replacement for “Friends” — did terribly in last week’s Nielsen ratings.
