LA.COM – PICK FOR THE WEEK- “Voyage d’Amour”
The Skinny
Edie Magoun, the creator-director of the all-female, all-powerful, all-funny sketch comedy troupe Tomboys in Fishnets, is back with her fourth original production, “Voyage d’Amour.”
With the void left by “Sex and the City,” the Tomboy’s latest show couldn’t have come at a better time. Like “SATC,” the show follows a group of women “on their hilarious search for ‘the-ever-elusive-thing-called-love,’” only it’s better because there are six women instead of four–and it takes place in outer space instead of Manhattan. What’s more, the show clocks in at an hour–with 17 hilarious sketches that make fun of men (and women in the face of men), without any predictable male-bashing–so you don’t have to wait six seasons for an ending. You won’t see Samantha spending an afternoon with her dildo or Miranda’s mother-in-law eating pizza out of a city trashcan, but that might be for the best.
